An Architectural Mystery

Architectural design fascinates me.

From the utterly ridiculous to the purely functional, it speaks of possibilities and challenges the limits of what can (or should) be done.

That being said, there is not much in way of interesting design that I have had a chance to experience up close. Let’s face it, I live on a tiny island in the Caribbean, which has a population of 2.7 million, so our buildings are built more for functionality and hurricane-proofing than award-winning design.

We do have the occasional ‘crowd-pleaser’, but there are times when pushing the limits can cause a stir in certain quarters, so I think it is safe to say that there exists no ‘Grand Designs Jamaica’ in the pipeline.

On Stories and Childhood Curiosity

For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by stories.

As a child, I remember reading any and every thing that I could lay my hands on. From fairy tales to westerns to mysteries to newspapers… and there was that one romance novel from my sister’s room that made me physically ill in the pit of my stomach, but  that is another story for another day.

(Actually… that day will not come, because I cannot think about it without making myself nauseated all over again).
